From a Questionnaire by the girls over at SewMamaSew, possibly the greatest resource for all modern sewers out there…
Looking back on the sewing scene of 2010, what trends stand out in your mind?
hexagons, craft meets modern, southern folk (think ikat… !), draping draping and more draping (think of those statement harem pants)! In terms of textile collections: small understated whimsy… like Heather Ross, or on the contrary: bold on bold- deep saturated colors and big prints-Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner. Elegant geometrics (Modern Meadow by Joel Dewberry)

What were some of your favorite things? (Trends, fabric collections, patterns, blogs? Whatever you really loved.)Really loving BurdaStyle, WikstenMade and OdetteNY for their folksy cool aesthetic, Colette patterns, Karyn’s patchworking, SchoolHouse Tunic pattern by Sew Liberated, the proliferation of the urban sewing lounge (like us!), French General’s La Petite Ecole… I could go on. Oh wait, can’t forget Denyse Schmidt’s Hope Valley!
What was the best thing you made in 2010? (Be sure to share a photo!)
What is one of the best things you saw that was made by someone else?
I see gorgeous things made by others all the time- maybe my favorite (for selfish reasons, is Piera’s Pia Quilt)
What do you think 2011 has in store? (Again, trends, fabric, patterns, etc.)
Well Pantone Color of 2011 is Honeysuckle… so lots of coral-pinks-orange colored things, lots of Black Swan-esque things- monochromatic with lots of texture and a pop of blush or rose. A return to the 40′s (Denyse Schmidt’s new collection), more solids, independent designers, limited editions, collaborations. Patchwork in clothing and more draping!

Anything you’re ready for the sewing world to get over?
Owls, mushrooms and maybe even birds…woodlandsy things and baby blue/brown color combo…
What’s on your sewing agenda for 2011? What are you excited about? What would you like to learn more about?
I want to learn more about clothing, patternmaking and making bigger projects using knits. Also, working on embroidery and getting all my house projects done (shower curtain, chair upholstery, table cloth, curtains… arrrrghhh).
